4 LITURGY AND WORSHIP ~ LITURGIA Y CULTO Joyce Lubofsky Ext. 333 Lent 2018 The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence. Good Friday is a day of fast and abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year and have not yet reached their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from meat) is obligatory for all who have reached their 14th year. Lent is a penitential season and as such religious practice such as daily Mass, reception of the Sacrament of Penance, the devotion of the Stations of the Cross, works of charity and justice, and acts of self-denial are highly encouraged. Stations of the Cross are prayed Friday nights at 7 PM in English and 8 PM in Spanish. RCIA Rituals at the 9 AM Mass: this weekend, we celebrate the Second Scrutiny with our elected catechumens, as they deal with the reality of the sins they have committed (which will be washed away in the waters of Baptism at the Easter Vigil). Please plan to attend these Masses to support our brothers and sisters in their journey. Lenten Penance Services with Confessions: Please note the dates of the remaining Lenten Penance Services in our Deanery; all take place at 7 PM: Tues. 3/13: St. Mary, League City Thurs. 3/15: St. Helen, Pearland. There will be NO Confessions at St. Paul this THURSDAY. The last opportunities for individual confessions are Tuesday 3/20 and Thursday 3/22, 5:30-6:30 PM only. PLAN AHEAD: HOLY WEEK SCHEDULE March 25th is Palm Sunday. Please arrive early for Mass and remember to observe the red-lined NO PARKING areas. At the 9 AM and 12 noon Masses, we will celebrate with a Procession, gathering in the NORTH (exit) DRIVEWAY for the blessing and distribution of Palm, walking together into the Church with songs and Psalms (weather permitting). At the Saturday and Sunday 5 PM Masses, palm will be distributed at the Church doors and blessed as Mass begins. Tuesday, March 27th: There are NO Confessions due to the Chrism Mass at the Co-Cathedral. Wednesday, March 28th: The Blessed Sacrament will be reposed at 12 noon until after the 8:30 AM Mass on Tuesday, April 3rd. Cuaresma 2018 Los viernes de Cuaresma son días de abstinencia. El Viernes Santo es día de ayuno y abstinencia. El ayuno es obligatorio para todos los que han completado su 18 año y aún no han alcanzado los 60 años. El ayuno permite a una persona a comer una comida completa. Dos comidas más pequeñas pueden tenerse, no igual una comida completa. Las últimas oportunidades para confesarse individualmente son martes 20 marzo y jueves 22 marzo, 5:30-6:30 PM solamente. HORARIO DE LA SEMANA SANTA El 25 de marzo es Domingo de Ramos. Favor de venir temprano para la Misa y recuerden observar las áreas marcadas en roja en que NO SE PERMITE PARQUEAR. En las Misas de las 9 AM y 12 de mediodía, celebramos una Procesión, reuniéndonos en LA ENTRADA AL NORTE (la de salida) para la bendición y distribución de los Ramos, andando juntos a la Iglesia cantando himnos y salmos (si permite el tiempo). En las Misas de las 5 PM del sábado y domingo, se distribuyen los ramos en las puertas y las bendecirán al principio de la Misa. Martes, 27 de marzo: No hay confesiones por razón de la Misa de la Crisma en el Co-Catedral. Miércoles, 28 de marzo: Se reposará el Santísimo a las 12 PM de mediodía hasta el término de la Misa de las 8:30 AM el martes 3 de abril.

Adult faith formation at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church is centered around the understanding that living The Way taught by Jesus Christ is a life-long, evolving journey, involving both effort and decision. To enable adults to explore the faith and deepen their knowledge of God s Word, we provide many opportunities to come together in a learning environment. As a diverse community with a small parish feel, we know it is important to walk that journey with others and to share what we have learned along the way. Men s ACTS Retreat Registrations are being accepted for the upcoming men s ACTS retreat scheduled for April 12-15, at Our Lady of Lourdes Retreat Center. This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate Easter and benefit from newfound community, a deeper faith, and a greater feeling of belonging to our parish. The next weekend is set for May Program for those Grieving Holy Name Retreat Center is featuring a day-long program for those who experiencing grief following the death of a loved one, including miscarriage, infant loss, and suicide. Pope Francis Monthly Intention Formation in Spiritual Discernment - That the Church may appreciate the urgency of formation in spiritual discernment, both on the personal and communitarian levels. Detente de ese mandamiento de vivir acelerado que dispersa, divide y termina destruyendo el tiempo de la familia, el tiempo de la amistad, el tiempo de los hijos, el tiempo de los abuelos, el tiempo de la gratuidad el tiempo de Dios Detente un poco delante de la necesidad de aparecer y ser visto por todos, de estar continuamente en «cartelera», que hace olvidar el valor de la intimidad y el recogimiento. Detente un poco ante la mirada altanera, el comentario fugaz y desprecinte que nace del olvido de la ternura, de la piedad y la reverencia para encontrar a los otros, especialmente a quienes son vulnerables, heridos e incluso inmersos en el pecado y el error. Detente un poco ante la compulsión de querer controlar todo, saberlo todo, devastar todo; que nace del olvido de la gratitud frente al don de la vida y a tanto bien recibido. Detente n poco ante el ruido ensordecedor que atrofia y aturde nuestros oídos y nos hace olvidar del poder fecundo y creador del silencio. Detente un poco ante la actitud de fomentar sentimientos estériles, infecundos, que brotan del encierro y la autocompasión y llevan al olvido de ir al encuentro de los otros para compartir las cargas y sufrimientos. Detente, mira y vuelve. Vuelve a la casa de tu Padre. Vuelve!, sin miedo, a los brazos anhelantes y expectantes de tu Padre rico en misericordia (cf. Ef 2,4) que te espera. Vuelve!, sin miedo, este es el tiempo oportuno para volver a casa; a la casa del Padre mío y Padre vuestro (cf. Jn 20,17). Este es el tiempo para dejarse tocar el corazón Permanecer en el camino del mal es sólo fuente de ilusión y de tristeza. La verdadera vida es algo bien distinto y nuestro corazón bien lo sabe. Dios no se cansa ni se cansará de tender la mano (cf. Bula Misericordiae vultus, 19). Vuelve!, sin miedo, a participar de la fiesta de los perdonados. Vuelve!, sin miedo, a experimentar la ternura sanadora y reconciliadora de Dios. Deja que el Señor sane las heridas del pecado y cumpla la profecía hecha a nuestros padres: «Les daré un corazón nuevo y pondré en ustedes un espíritu nuevo: les arrancaré de su cuerpo el corazón de piedra y les daré un corazón de carne» (Ez 36,26).
